But since that use of 'cmsg' is no longer sanctioned by our draft, that
example is of no interest.
More to the point would be
Subject: =?us-ascii?Q?Re:?= foo
I think that would confuse many current reading agents but, OTOH, USEAGE
does warn them that they need to take care of that case. But then again, I
doubt any current followup agent actually generates that, and certainly
the problem has not caused the Death of Usenet so far.
We have discussed this before, and I think the conclusion reached was that
there were several other cases where it was going to be necessary for
reading agents to decode any RFC 2047 stuff before trying to process it,
and hence there was no point making a special issue of this one (though
some earlier drafts did).

Yes, Mailman is a much better system. I am subscribed to the list as
local.usefor@clerew.man.ac.uk, and I gateway to a local newsgroup. But I
manage to post as chl@clerew.man.ac.uk (though I seems to recall that I
had to hit Kent hard and repeatedly to get it set up that way, and that
was in the days when he used to answer his emails :-( ).
