Yes, that is essentially the point I was trying to make. Or Julien's "if
any" would do as well.

Indeed, but if you want to drop more/stronger hints that checks on cancel
messages are a Good Thing, then the text(s) discussing cancel messages is
the place to do it (but we already say as much as we reasonably can
there).
