Well, certainly the equivalence XML Infoset = XML + Namespace has been used before by experts in the area [1]. As with any (rough) equivalence, it works only to a certain level.

No, XML 1.0 + Namespaces in XML = XML + Namespace.

The Infoset describes an abstraction with a remarkably jargonized vocabulary (information items marching about) that represents a subset of XML + Namespace capabilities. The Infoset was not defined to advance XML technology to any new level - it only provides descriptions of capabilities.
