IMC Security Workshop

In February, the IMC hosted a workshop aimed at resolving the interoperability problems in the email security market. For more information, please see the post-workshop press release. To join the post-workshop discussion list, please see the workshop's Web page.

MailConnect 1

IMC's first industry-wide interoperability event, MailConnect 1, was a great sucess. This was the first place for the whole Internet mail industry to get together to test interoperable implementations of two key protocols for Internet mail: IMAP and MIME. More information about the event and follow-on events can be found on the MailConnect Web page.

MailConnect 2

Held six months after MailConnect 1, the MailConnect 2 event was also well received. Many of the same vendors were at the second event, but there was also many newcomers. It was clear that the IMAP market had clearly matured between events, and there was much more high-level interaction between clients and servers during the two days. Vendors also tested SMTP interoperability, and found that in fact there was pretty much complete interoperability here as well.

DirConnect 1

Although directories are not directly part of Internet mail, IMC's members asked it to hold an LDAP interoperability event similar to the MailConnect events because many members also offer LDAP clients and servers. The event yielded similar kinds of results to the MailConnect events, with LDAP vendors getting to know each other better and coming away with better understanding of which core features and extensions each were supporting.
