There is no good reason.  I did most of the work of rewriting the makefiles
to use perl instead, until I discovered that the Jonah code uses portions
of the C++ dialect that simply aren't implemented on platforms other than
Microsoft Windows.

Since a Solaris port is critical to my work, I stopped my development
effort.  But you should be able to excise the MKS-dependent portions of the
make without too much trouble.
