Michael,

When we started the Solaris port we ran into problems using gcc because
of the Standard Template Libraries used in the Jonah code.  When these
problems were reported we received notification that this was a known
problem and no estimated time for a fix being available.  This caused
us to use the SparcWorks compiler.

I will let John or others answer the Linux port and export questions.
