You don't need to since your business card usually doesn't travel around
the world, and most people know the area codes of the various cellular
operators within their own country, so the information you need to know
the technology is already there on the card. Lots of people use this
information for deciding which number to call, because if you use the
same service as the one you're calling to, it's much cheaper.

Different for vCard: since this travels a lot over the Internet (we're
at IMC...) you can't think of everyone knowing all the different area
codes around the world of all the cellular services. Well, maybe no
problem for e.g. GSM since a Russian caller probably won't call to a
British business partner subscribed to the same GSM service provider
(despite being possible since roaming offers the ability to use any
provider's cards in any country that has GSM, and a lot of German people
e.g. use Danish cards for various reasons, including lower fees). But
for PCS and all the upcoming satellite systems it's much different:
their prices differ from normal cellular and line systems _on
international calls, too_.

Well, vCards seem to be used for two very different purposes:
1.) to transfer PIM data within a private or company context,
2.) to exchange address data with people (friends, business partners,
net neighbors, maybe legal opponents...)

Of course there is information you need privately but don't want to get
public. (And well yeah, legal opponents shouldn't get all the
information a friend should get.) So there could be private properties
and public ones (as a subamount of the private ones). If I send a vCard
I could chose between public (default), private and maybe "for friends
only" or "for partners only" (to separate friends from business
partners). Make the CLASS and CATEGORIES properties private.
