Re: Chinese names, and a few other questions
Steven:
Great to hear that your organization is going to be supporting the vCard
specification (assume IMC version 2.1?).
My input on your questions...
1. I would suggest that when you emit vCards you fill in both the FN and N
properties. The formatted name property is often used to display the
identify of an object associated with the vCard. The N property is a method
for conveying the "structured" name information. I think that the vCard
tried to be more "internationalized" with their name properties than the
X.500 CN and SN properties, but it probably could be better!
2. I think that Paul was too humble. He is right, you don't need to join
IMC to use the vCard/vCalendar stuff...but IMC is a great industry
organization. I personally would advocate vCard and vCalendar vendors to
join. Remember, we are still wanting to do some interoperability testing. I
think that IMC is the right place to be doing this work. IMC is also a good
industry organization for vCard/vCalendar vendors to fraternize :-)
3. I was not aware of the non-standard "X-" properties for nickname. This
is a good idea. Do you want to propose it as an enhancement to vCard?
Cheers.
