I think that MFI is "Multi-Function Interface".

Anyway, that is a nit.  Yes, MSP is being used in the Defense Message 
System.  Clearly, it works with the X.400/X.500 DMS Infrastructure.  
It also works in an Internet MIME environment, and it works in other 
e-mail environments.  I have personally used it in Microsoft Mail and 
Xerox XNS.
