V1 vs. V3 certificate usage

I'm sorry that a last minute change of plans has prevented me from joining the
group. I would have enjoyed the well-reasoned, unemotional discussion of the
issues that I am certain will take place. :-)

I'd like to add one request to the agenda, and that is to take a quick poll of
the potential vendors to see how strong the requirement is for X.509 V1
certificates, and what the financial and/or other impact would be if only V3
certificates were to be supported, effective immediately?

There are so many really useful features that are not available in V1 that I
hate to see the user/vendor community going down that path any more.

However, if there is an enormous hue and cry about how everyone already has
their code all written and is about to release it to millions of users, then it
would at least be useful to understand when the vendor community expects to
begin supporting V3, at least to the extent of recognizing the critical flag
and ignoring any of the optional attributes they don't understand?

And finally, I hope that someone will take some really good, detailed notes,
and distribute them to those of us who couldn't make it. The hallway gossip and
rumors of who is doing what and who is not would be interesting as well!
